At the heart of L’Abbraccio Children’s Hospital, the pediatrics department is the cornerstone of the hospital’s operations, dedicated to the comprehensive care of children from birth through adolescence.
Our mission is to provide high-quality pediatric care that is accessible and tailored to the specific needs of children in our community.
The department ensures:
- Pediatric consultations for the diagnosis and treatment of acute conditions
- Treatment of common childhood illnesses and infections
- Monitoring a child’s growth and development
- care for hospitalized children requiring continuous medical care
- prevention, vaccination, and health education activities
Special attention is given to the management of malnutrition through early screening and referral to the hospital’s Nutrition Center for specialized and tailored care.
The department is also developing specific initiatives for the management of chronic conditions, notably through a pilot project focused on sickle cell disease, which includes regular follow-up of children and the administration of hydroxyurea according to tailored protocols, with the goal of improving quality of life and reducing complications.
We attach particular importance to :
- early detection of at-risk situations
- integrated management of childhood illnesses
quality and safety of care - support and guidance for families
- promotion of good nutritional practices and home care
The department works in coordination with other hospital units, particularly the neonatal and maternity units, to ensure optimal continuity of care.
In 2025, the hospital conducted 3,000 inpatient visits, 9,000 outpatient visits related to the malnutrition treatment program, and managed 1,500 hospitalizations.
