The Nutrition Center at L’Abbraccio Children’s Hospital plays a vital role in the prevention and treatment of childhood malnutrition, a major public health issue in our area of operation.
In collaboration with the Maria Bonino Foundation, the center provides care for children suffering from acute and chronic malnutrition, working closely with the pediatrics department through an integrated approach that combines medical care, nutritional monitoring, and support for families
- Special attention is given to ensuring access to care:
the center guarantees the free distribution of meals to hospitalized children, as well as to the mothers of newborns receiving care in the neonatal unit, in order to support nutritional recovery and the mother-child bond.
The Nutrition Center also carries out community initiatives, in partnership with Cooperativa Minerva, to prevent malnutrition at its source:
- organizing systematic screening campaigns in villages for children aged 0 to 5
- early identification of at-risk cases and referral to healthcare facilities
- training of women community leaders, who serve as essential liaisons for raising awareness and providing nutritional follow-up at the local level
- nutrition education activities for families
These initiatives help strengthen the bond between the hospital and the communities, while promoting early and continuous care for children.
